XVII° VIE is on the Prikosnovenie label and thus from the same stable
as Cherche-Lune.
The band is based in Les Sables d'Olonnes in France and currently comprises
Karin (voice, percussion, synth), Anastasia (violin), Franck
(guitars, synth) and Anthony (percussion).
The group was formed in 1991 when Karin was seventeen. She draws her
inspiration from "dreams full of legends, childhood's memories, innocence
and bitter passions."
They have so far recorded two tapes and a CD, and contributed to a couple
of compilations. A review copy of the CD, La Prana (1996 Prik009),
was kindly supplied by Prikosnovenie.
Their music is ethereal and very European with classical and mediaeval
touches. It is sometimes seductively transcendent and sometimes disturbing.
Vocals are in French and English, and the music is interspersed with spoken-word
in French and Polish (the latter contributed by Michel who has since left
the group).
