Vidna Obmana has been churning out ambient records for years, most of them being non-moving yarnfeasts. So when this new Vidna Obmana CD arrived I almost wished it would be a re-release of his early recordings as a Whitehouse clone. But, boy, did he surprise me! Variations for Organ, Keyboard & Processors is Vidna Obmana's most challenging work to date. It is based on recordings made by Willem Tanke. After Willem Tanke read Fritjof Capra's book, Tao of Physics, he composed (and recorded) a series of organ pieces to be played on a church organ. Vidna Obmana has taken these recordings and pushed them through his electronic laboratory. The result is a hauntingly beautiful record that creeps up on you and passes out into the universe. The music captures the mystique and feeling of a gothic cathedral. A truly great record.
