The stag (the king of the wood) symbolises spirituality
and intuition, redeeming us from reason alone. It appears in times
of distress and peril and brings a unique element of warmth and
positivity into art. At the same time it is equipped with mental
strength and acumen and is the escort of the soul.
The moose is the oldest and most interesting stag, and once lived
in Germany. Fascination, inspiration and wonder combine in one's
feeling while watching and studying moose and elks. It's amazing
that their horns can span 3.5 metres, and that they are able to
jump two-metre fences and aren't afraid of anything. When you look
into the moose's eyes you can see something hidden, past, faithful
and forthcoming. It's very important for me to find out about the
psyche, the feelings, the muscle construction, the bones, everything.
But in the end it is admiration, fascination and love which give
me ideas for sculptures, paintings, installations and happenings.
In the sign of the cross intuition and reason connect together,
and only in combination can these lead to real, unique perception
whereby self-confidence, independence and freedom are assumed and
the self realised.
To understand graphics, painting and sculpture does not necessarily
mean finding within them a closed chain of interpretation which
can of itself be resolved into a conceptual formulation - it is
not that easy! Art, in my opinion, aspires to create associations
through its own projection. This is far removed from the help of
reason. To stimulate thought processes and associations, to reveal
hidden human experiences and to change consciousness: these are
the aims of art in general. Art doesn't exist to be interpreted
- I consider this to be crucial! Art exists to sharpen the human
senses, which is necessary and originated in the evolution of human
beings. But more than this, it broadens the organisation of sense
- the human creative potential. Therefore, the notion of understanding
has to be connected to something completely different. It cannot
be understood purely by logical, intellectual comprehension, but
by the whole person completely integrated in their being.
