SINFONYE
SINFONYE are based around the singer and virtuoso medieval
fiddle and hurdy-gurdy player, Stevie Wishart, who is joined
on the latest CD album by collaborators Vivien Ellis and
Jocelyn West (ex-Miranda Sex
Garden). Sinfonye's Three Sisters on the Seashore (1995
LUN CD 333) is almost worth buying for the box alone, which is a
tour de force of rococco exoticism, and features the three
girls, naked shoulders and hair flowing, as three submerged mermaids.
The CD comprises French and English songs from the Thirteenth
Century supplemented by 'Azeruz', a new work drawing on medieval
sources and style. It is mostly sung in three parts and is all very
'ethereal'. Despite her deep interest in early music and high standing
in the circles that perform and enjoy it, Stevie Wishart is no stranger
to more modern involvements, so watch this Web space for future
coverage.
