My infatuation with Roman history and architecture, the Italian Renaissance and the modern Italian contribution to Art Deco, fashion, film and graphic design was finally consummated with a holiday in Rome, a city of peeling stucco and ancient remains. Che bella città e che belle ragazze!

Rome's main tourist attractions are well covered in guides and on the Web, so this guide concentrates on personal impressions and recommendations, and those aspects of visiting Rome little covered elsewhere. My wife and I visited Rome at the end of April/beginning of May (2001), before it got too busy and before it got too hot. Despite having two weeks, we missed several important museums and never got to Ostia, but we’ve thrown our coins into the Trevi Fountain and Rome's certainly a place we'll be very happy to return to.
