21 February 2004 dark ambient experimental neoclassical ambient industrial filmic atmospheric | Frank den Haan's FDH presents a mix of experimental, orchestral/neo-classical and electronic elements. The predominantly filmic music is mellow and satisfying, despite having a rather bright sound quality, and it's a very mature sound for a project that began around Autumn 2002.
'Opening' sets the scene with a nicely balanced mixture of orchestral keyboard sounds and percussion. The opening funereal tones of 'Sent Down' develop into a more wandering, sadly reflective piece of ambience. 'No Freedom Tomorrow' continues the descent into melancholia with a piano piece. 'And The Statues Crumble' sandwiches a symphonic/neoclassical filling - albeit a very electronic one - between atmospheric sections. 'Pestilence Wind' has a strong keyboard riff which is looped repeatedly against a background of rumbling percusssion. 'Desolate' reverts to neoclassical piano echoed by some distorted electronic sounds. 'Banners Rise' begins with a cold, windy sound before a strident electronic organ beats out a dark march. 'Finale' ends the album with a mellow electronic-ambient piece.
Frank is currently based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, further evidence of the growing importance of Canada in the experimental genre. This debut CD, which bodes well for the future, is issued by Cynfeirdd (France) in a limited pressing as part of its 'Eye For Eye Series'.
