experimental   synthpop   electronic   novelty

Nervkållaps are a duo from Sweden. They sound kind of comical and tacky despite the fact I don't understand what they're singing about due to it being in Swedish. The title of the album translates as "The Finnish Mohican" though, so there's some indication in that alone. The vocals are sung in a strange Swedish accent whilst the music is electronic. There's certainly some powerful stuff here and some excellent tunes, so don't fob this off as a bad novelty record.

'Kram' is the first track. It starts with some thumping electronic beats and a basic synth melody. Then that strange accent appears as the vocals kick in. The second song, 'SMS6', starts with the noise you get when somebody texts you when your mobile is near a speaker! The song is about sending dirty texts although again I'm not entirely sure about the content. Musically it's kind of like something you'd get on Kraftwork's "Computerworld" although with a wierder vocal style. I expected this voice to grate on me after a while but instead I warmed to it the more the CD went on. 'Oj Vad Gneurna Hoppar' is one of the poppiest tracks with its bouncy rhythm and tacky gay disco style synth! In contrast 'Ödets Mekanik' is quite dark with an early Human League feel about it. 'Kremator' is one of the harder tracks. It has a hard distorted beat to which a quirky melody is added. Each song is pretty short with only one being over four minutes. It's entitled 'Sex Med Erotik'. It starts with wind noises then a few sytnth noises to tease before it lets loose. It's quite hard sounding with some sexual moans in the background (or at least I assume they are). 'Hejsan V 1.0' starts off sounding like 'Kids In America' by Kim Wilde! It's clanging industrial beat soon changes things though. It ends with 'Med I Nervkällaps' another of the more upbeat quirky songs. It's almost hip-hop sounding. This CD has to be approached with an open mind. For me it has a lot of appeal amongst its strange quirky sound!
