KEYBOARDS

The LandWare GoType Keyboard for the PalmPilot/Palm III and the Palm V has been an absolute must for anyone who wanted to do some serious word-processing, although I admit to never having bought one myself! The GoType, however, has been eclipsed. Whilst excellent in its time, the measurements of 10" x 4" x 0.75" and weight of approximately 11 oz didn't make it as convenient as it might be.

GoType for the PalmPilot/Palm III:

The Palm Portable Keyboard, however, is a full-size keyboard that folds up into a size just slightly bigger than a Palm organiser. (Open it measures 13.8” x 5.1” x 0.3”, but closed it is only 3.6” x 5.1” x 0.79”.) It also weighs less than 8 ounces. There are nine user-programmable keys, and using only minimal power drawn from the Palm organizer, no additional batteries are required. The keyboard is available in two versions, one for the Palm III/VII and another for the Palm V. It's such a brilliant piece of mechanical engineering that some people might want to buy one even if they don't have a Palm device!

You will need a flat surface (such as a briefcase) on which to use it. The only drawback is that the organizer attaches rather flimsily and if you do rest it on a briefcase and push it too far back you will find your Palm being catapulted onto the floor.
