PALM HINTS & TIPS

Miscellaneous hints and tips for Palm users

SCREEN PROTECTION

The Graffitti area can be protected from scratches with Scotch Removable Magic Tape 811. Make sure you get the one in the blue box. This is a very cheap option but won't stop degradation of the rest of the screen.

Whole-screen protection can be obtained with WriteRights which are available from ConceptKitchen at http://www.conceptkitchen.com/products/pdas00671.shtml (for Palm III users) and  http://www.conceptkitchen.com/products/pdas02789.shtml (for Palm V users) or from Widget http://www.widget.co.uk. They are not cheap, but neither is replacing the screen of your Palm!

USING RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES IN PALM III ETC

It's possible to use re-chargeable batteries in the Palm III and other models taking AAA alkaline batteries, but you need to toggle the battery meter for a correct reading of remaining power. You do this by opening a memo and making the shortcut symbol followed by .7. You can then cycle between the given values:

[NiCad]
[Rechargeable Alkaline]
[NiMH]
[Alkaline]

ESSENTIAL SOFTWARE

Palm software is generally very cheap and certain programs are highly advantageous for extending the Palm's basic functionality. See the SOFTWARE section for details.
