ALLERSEELEN
Abenteuerliches Herz
2002
CD
AORCD07
The compositions on Allerseelen's Abenteuerliches Herz
(Adventurous Heart) were inspired by some 'magical mystery tours' in Spain
and influenced by Ernst Jünger's surrealistic book of the same name.
Much of Allerseelen's music consists of spoken-word vocals and acoustic
guitar superimposed over looped samples. While most artists in this genre
might be expected to opt for folky, classical, ambient or even military
grooves, Gerhard often uses distorted guitar riffs and aggressive rock
beats which produce a sometimes quite raucous and certainly disconcerting
effect, but I wouldn't have it any other way. 'Rioja' combines an insistent
pop groove with spoken word and Flamenco hand claps, while the Flamenco
really flies on 'Sturmlied 2.0'. 'Nest 1.0' and 'Nest 2.0' are based on
Iggy Pop's 'Shoeshine Girl' from his 1995 album, Naughtie Little Doggie.
The CD booklet is strikingly illustrated with Gerhard's photographs of
the Taula megaliths on the island of Minorca.
