MARCO FRANCINI

Echos
CD
Musica Maxima Magnetica AIM 2
2002

Marco Francini's album prides itself on belonging to the genre of "real ambient". In other words it is composed of the entirely natural sounds of the human voice and found objects such as shells.

The work is characterised by sacral chant and gentle organic percussion. But it is far more than that: it is a holy communion with the ancient sacred rites of Old Europe, rooted in water and soil, and conducted in subterranean caverns and passages. This is the religion in which I should have been brought up.

Marco Francini and his collaborators recorded this work at sacred and historical sites in the Flegrea area round Naples. Apart from some works emanating from Portugal, I have had little encounter with "real ambient" but I hope to have more.

Rik - 28 Februrary 2002
