EN VELOURS NOIRElse This four track EP by En Velours Noir is the work of Italian Luigi M.Mennella and is a prelude to his debut LP. It's a collection of unpublished and exclusive tracks. It's quite theatrical like it could be the soundtrack for a dark musical or something. All four songs would be put into the easy listening bracket although a more gothic version of that genre. 'About Love And Masks' is a bit like a cross between Nada-era Death In June and Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells if you can imagine such a thing. 'A Monster Nearby' is more chirpy and you could well picture it in a musical version of a Dickens tale. 'Requiem To Flesh' has a gothic organ as its intro as it drifts well into Dead Can Dance territory. It's the darkest and most haunting out of the four. 'Under A Still Sun Kiss' is more space age sounding with its weird synth effects and ambient melodies whilst pounding drums and deep vocals do their best to darken things up! Then to end things some brief piano kicks in sounding like something from 'Fiddler On The Roof'! JOHN MARSHALL - 25 January 2001
