Dark Symphonies
Autumn Tears have issued a trilogy of CDs and an MCD forming a
monumental epic themed on the 'Dark Goddess Autumn'. Featuring tracks
from all four releases, this particular CD sampler is not itself for sale
but has afforded me, in my privileged position as a reviewer, an opportunity
to experience Autumn Tears' sumptuous work and introduce it to these pages.
Influenced by chant and classical music, Enya, Stoa and
earlier Dead Can Dance, Autumn Tears present haunting ethereal
and operatic vocals coupled with highly confident synthesized neoclassical
orchestrations.
Composition, arrangements, piano, keyboards and vocals are contributed
by Ted (1995-) whilst lead female vocals haye been the province
of Erika (1995-1997) and Jenni LeeAnna (1998-). On scale
alone this epic series deserves to become a classic of the genre, but
the high-quality vocals and electro-symphonic music would still comprise
a masterpiece at a fraction of the epic length provided.
