DER
BLUTHARSCH
The Track Of The Hunted
2000
CD
ART10
Tesco Distribution
Der Blutharsch was one of the first satellites to follow
Death In June's defection from World Serpent to Tesco, and
this is their first release with the new distributor.
The opening track features a novel combination of operatic samples,
found sound and low-fi/distorted synth-orchestra, but the remainder
is familiar Der Blutharsch/Moon lay hidden territory with few surprises,
although that's just an observation, not a complaint. The album
also follows Moon lay hidden precedent in having no listing of track
titles. The music does speak - if not shout - for itself, but this
omission is still a nuisance for reviewers!
Track 4 has an overlaid tribal chant reminiscent of Moon lay hidden.
Track 5 features heavy percussion and a confused ritual atmosphere
with vocal and instrumental elements. Track 6 takes a folk-industrial
approach, again reminiscent of Moon lay hidden but much harsher
and more discordant. Track 9 is an historical recording which is
very much a Blutharsch innovation. I presume it is one of those
quirky wartime propaganda songs that the Germans made in a rather
strange imitation of Anglo-American swing. There was some discussion
about these on WSD-L (the World Serpent email discussion list).
If anyone cares to refresh my memory I'll incorporate the details
here. All in all this album is exactly what you'd expect from Der
Blutharsch and should please fans.

Postscript: A Finnish reader tells me that the
old wartime songs Albin has used on both Der Sieg Des Lichtes
ist des Lebens Heil! and The Track Of The Hunted are
actually Finnish coverversions of popular German wartime schlagers
(hits) . The one on Sieg des Liches... is
called 'Liisa Pien' and is believed to be by a singer called Kauko
Käyhkö.
