Sol Invictus have been working hard on the concert circuit,
but those who have so far failed to catch them could do no better
than obtain this live recording of a gig they played in Trieste,
Italy, last November. Entirely acoustic, this album has Tony
Wakeford, Matt Howden and Sally Doherty at their
most folky.
The album opens with the mediaeval-sounding 'O Rubor Sanguinis'
in which Sally's beautiful and wandering vocals weave around Tony's
chant of the title words. On 'In My Garden', Matt's stabbing violin
dramatically conveys all the excitement Sol's live performances.
Whilst some fans may prefer a more electronic approach, the words
and tunes come over all the more strongly when unplugged. Seventeen
Sol favourites are featured culminating in the defiant heroism of
'Against the Modern World' and the hauntingly plaintive 'In Europa'.
