KRAFTWERK

The electronic demigods, Kraftwerk, are back with a CD single
after a gap of nine years since their last album, The Mix, in
1991. The group's notoriously low output is frustrating but it has certainly helped
to preserve their mystique.
Expo2000 is a tribute to the Hannover Expo 2000 science fair.
The CD consists of the 'Expo2000 Radio Mix', which occupies about 3.5
minutes, and three 5-6 minute remixes. The song intones the enigmatic
mantra of "man, nature, technology". Combining celebration with menace,
it's a classic Kraftwerk take on the age of the man-machine. The tune
is melodious, economical and controlled although I have to admit that
four mixes of the same thing is a little monotonous. 'Kling Klang 2002
Mix' has a dancey, techno style and is a nod to the music that Kraftwerk
has sired. It's also probably the best treatment of the four tracks.
(A shorter UK version has also been released because of the chart restrictions
on defined 'singles').
