GAË BOLG AND THE CHURCH OF FAND
John Barleycorn must die
Cyn 007 CD
44:09
Trumpets and drums enliven and drive these 8 tracks of symphonic martial
music ranging from neoclassical through neomediaeval to something more
industrial. This is the first full-length album from this exotically-named
project which is the work of Eric Roger who plays trumpet with
Sol Invictus and L'Orchestre Noir. For those not steeped
in Celtic mythology, Gaë Bolg was the foot-launched, belly-ripping, barbed
spear given to the hero, Cuchulain, whilst Fand was wife to the seagod,
Manannan, and one of Cuchulain's lovers. The digipak is inscribed with
a 'Gaë Bolg recipe'. This must be a first. How endearingly French!
