INKUBUS SUKKUBUS
Vampyre Erotica
1997
CD
Resurrection Records ABCD17
Inkubus Sukkubus' latest album, Vampyre Erotica
(1997 Resurrection Records ABCD17), is in their familiar gothrock
style, featuring Candia's clear and attractive vocals with some
frenetic music on guitars and keyboards.
This is an album trying to catch a train, but there are some slower,
more ethereal pieces such as 'Danse Vampyr' and 'Sweet Morpheus' (which
is in All About Eve style). Also featured is a cover of the Stones'
classic, 'Paint It Black'.
There are promising hints of dark melodies, mediaeval influences, and
classical-ambient crossovers, but these passages are mostly confined to
intros. While their driving rock approach is exciting, it would be interesting
to see them develop their potential for darker, more ambient sounds.
The review copy was kindly supplied by Resurrection
Records, the recording label and retail outlet.
