ERIDU ARCANE

The dying of an ageless day
2002
CD
Cyn 013

Trond Tjostheim and Oddbjorn Hestnes of Eridu Arcane combine sweet and gentle ethereal vocals, acoustic guitar, violin, flutes, drums, percussion, and bass on this elegantly entitled album. The sound is a good one, although I think they could gain in interest by varying their approach a little more.

They confess to being inspired by Dead Can Dance, Sopor Aeturnus and the Ensemble of Shadows as well as by European classical music and Irish folk music, but the product of these influences - essentially a neofolk foreground with a strongly neoclassical background - is distinctively their own.

Rik - 30 October 2002
