ENLIGHTENMENT COMMUNICATIONS
4 Verdun Terrace, West Cornforth, County Durham, DL17 9LN, ENGLAND
ENLIGHTENMENT COMMUNICATIONS is a label run by Stephen Pennick
and Chris Walton of Endura, and it has
issued two compilation tapes with contributions for a third being collected
now. They contain an interesting and very varied range of music and are
of good sound quality.
LUXURIA VOLUME I (C-60 cassette)
Luxuria Volume I features contributions from Cathedra
(plainchant with noises: quite clever), dRome (pure industrial
noise), Sub Requiem (poignant music and dreamy vocals: pleasant),
S/Fade (noisy and repetitive), Stigma (ambient), Ontario
Blue (powerful synth-classical: good), MDM (punk rock but more
melodious this time round), Candiru (hard rock with excretive theme),
Noit (dripping water, ritual drumming and epic synth-orchestral:
very good), Endura (voice sample over industrial soundscape), Never
(70s-style Underground rock plus a lot of shouting), Elixir (looped
soundclip) and Smell & Quim (ambient industrial and sound clip).
LUXURIA VOLUME II (C-60 cassette)
Luxuria Volume II features contributions from Extrapolate
Cement Imprint Machinery (film soundtrack sample and acoustic guitar),
Ontario Blue (orgasmic, good music but not one to play in the office),
The Witches (pleasant folky vocals), Communion (spoken word
over ambient music), Toups (electric guitar - remember them?),
Oberon (ballad with piano and orchestral backing),
Martin Howard (experimental soundscape), Hex Minora (experimental
with an abrupt ending), Inkubus Sukkubus
(folky pop-rock reminiscent of the Cranberries), Collapse
(gently pulsing and eerie music with voiceover), Propaganda
Machine (epic synth-classical suggestive of Richard Strauss's
'Also Sprach Zarathustra': dramatic), Endura (floating vocals and
music), Shadowdance (Bowie-ish synth-pop),
Book of Wisdom (contemplative mediaeval ditty: nice) and LRI
(song with impressive film-classical-style orchestration: good).
The Luxuria cassettes are priced at £3.00 and £3.50 respectively.
Enlightenment Communications have also issued two cassettes by Ontario
Blue, Stephen Pennick's solo project.
