DEATH IN JUNE (BOOK REVIEW)
MISERY AND PURITY: A HISTORY AND PERSONAL INTERPRETATION
by ROBERT FORBES
Within the 223 pages can be found an exhaustive and, dare we say, obsessive
overview of Death In June. It contains many never-before-seen photos
and brings together under one cover various concert flyers and reviews.
Forbes was a fan of Douglas P and Tony
Wakeford's first musical mobilisation, Crisis. And there
is plenty for those interested in that little acorn from which the mighty
oak of DIJ did grow.
Misery and Purity is, as its sub-title freely admits, one person's
view, and should be read accordingly. We are sure many people, including
some members and ex-members of DIJ, may have a different recollection
and view from the author, and mixed feelings about the publication of
some of the photos.
The book is worth buying for an early posed Crisis photo, in which the
reader can view, in the privacy of his/her own home, a young Tony Wakeford
as an anorexic skinhead and an equally youthful Douglas P with an exceedingly
dodgy haircut. It is a must for any serious DIJ collector.
