CHERCHE-LUNE

CHERCHE-LUNE from Nantes (in Brittany) was formed in 1991 and currently consists of Claire (voice), David (bass), Pierrick (oboe, flutes), Pierre-Yves (violin) and Willy (percussion).

It has issued one CD album, Dun Emrys (1994 Prik005), which is a richly ethereal offering of enchanting vocals, masterly instrumental accompaniment and haunting tunes, drawing on Celtic and mediaeval inspiration. It has an upbeat and rather sweet start, while 'Dark Eyes' (track 7) is particularly plaintive and folky.

Reviewing the album in Bizarre, Alex Novak wrote:

Melancholy violin and Claire's angelic and spiritually uplifting vocals dominate the proceedings. Beautifully fragile pieces that delve deep into the psyche, then there is more driven material which heads into Sinead O'Connor territory to balance things. Lots of light and shade which shift with ease like the phases of the moon.

Dun Emrys is on the Prikosnovenie label.

Rik - 29 September 1996
