THE CHANGELINGS

Astronomica
2002
CD
MPP985

Regeana Morris' ethereal vocals and the lush Middle Eastern-influenced orchestration characterise Astronomica as they have The Changelings' superb string of earlier releases. Gothic, neofolk, neoclassical, and cinematic are terms that can also be applied to elements of their music, but this eclecticism is melded seamlessly into their own unique and convincingly organic sound.

The album is themed on the concept of a trip into outerspace - an obvious subject for ethereal treatment, but the lyrics trace a love story. Woven into the tapestry of The Changelings' own words and music is a playful cover version of Pink Floyd's 'See Emily Play'. This works well in my opinion, underlining a psychedelic bridge with the music of more than thirty years ago.

Rik - 25 September 2002
