BRITISH HORROR - BOOT'S CLASSIC

Fragments of Fear - an illustrated History of British Horror Films
Andy Boot
ISBN 1-84068-055-5
Creation Books $19.95/£14.95

This is one the best books about horror films I've ever read. Being a part of the Creation Cinema Collection, I was expecting something good. This is a revised and updated edition. Instead of concentrating on Hammer (although they get their share as well), Andy Boot also tells the story of the other British studios such as Amicus and Tigon. Andy Boot is a fan and he tells you so. This is really refreshing. No need to hide behind crappy psychological bullshit when you love the films. He tells you which ones he likes and why. I started to dig up old tapes of horror movies and watched them again remembering how good I thought some of them were. He even managed to make me see some I didn't care for back then when all I wanted was gore. If you have any interest in horror movies, Fragments of Fear is required reading.

JONAS KELLAGHER - 9 March 2000
