BLOOD AXIS
BLOOD AXIS was founded by Michael Moynihan (a former member
of Boyd Rice's Non) and has been in existence since
1989. It contributed two songs to The Lamp of Invisible Light compilation
(Cthulhu Records 1991) but its own CD has been some time coming.
Conceived in the Winter of 1994/95 The Gospel of Inhumanity (1996
CR19/STRM05) was performed, recorded and engineered by Michael Moynihan
and Robert Ferbrache, and is set to establish a firm presence for BA in
the gothic-industrial genre. As a controversial hymn to might, it is also
calculated to provoke the censorial wrath of the politically correct,
but that is another story...
The CD is a powerful extravaganza of synthesised classical and original
music, and the spoken word provided by Michael Moynihan, Ezra
Pound and Charles Manson.
The opening and title track, 'The Gospel of Inhumanity', provides a
big build-up with a baroque harpsichord effect. 'The Voyage (Canto 1)'
has a reading by Ezra Pound set to music by J S Bach. 'Eternal Soul' is
original. 'Between Birds of Prey' is a reading from Nietzsche set to music
by BA in a very Wagnerian mode. 'Herr, num laß in Frieden' has Charles
Manson talking with music by Bach.
'Reign I Forever' is a powerful setting of H W Longfellow's 'The Challenge
of Thor' to the 'Montagues and Capulets' theme from Act 1 of Prokofiev's
Romeo and Juliet. 'Absinthe' is a very clever and original dialogue
between the self-deceived drug addict and the spirit of addiction. 'Storm
of Steel' brings us back to the heroic with a very Laibachish hymn to
"strength through strife".
Having a libertarian perspective, FluxEuropa does not
endorse Michael Moynihan's political position, but we have no problem
with enjoying the music.
