AUTOPSIA
Colonia
2002
CD
Staalplaat
Autopsia is a purveyor of an alternative neoclassicism
encompassing industrial, ambient, electronic and minimalist elements.
The project has been in existence since the early 1980s, based first in
Yugoslavia and now in Prague.
It's not only something special musically, but in the way it presents
itself. In a parody of postmodern tendencies Autopsia is musically, graphically
and philosophically concerned with manipulating eclectic icons divorced
from their original meanings. Like Laibach/Neue Slovenische Kunst, Autopsia
revels in the linguistic obscurity of modern cultural studies, extending
the the disassociation of symbols and meaning in the language of its own
discourse.
But don't let this put you off. The music is amongst the best neoclassical/ambient/filmic
music I have heard, and has followed that of Michael Nyman's in being utilsed
in a Peter Greenaway film - The Pillow Book (1995).
Colonia is devoted to death, but not in a trite 'PC' way. A
fierce critic of consumerism and all other aspects of massification, Autopsia
is an elitist project aimed at communicating with individuals.
