ANDREW KING
STATEMENT OF INTENT
Since early 1991, with my painting A Litany Of Possessiveness,
my art has consisted of an ongoing series of paintings and occasional
text compositions which while existing as separate entities should all
be seen as being of the same group, not only with regards to the mediums
employed but also due to the substantial difference in intent between
them and my previous work, for whereas before I had utilised many mediums
and formats in an attempt to answer questions regarding the nature of
'creativity' and 'meaning' I now knew these questions to be irrelevant
and the activity that they generated to be sterile.
Thus I now only concentrate on those mediums which have proved most
efficacious and convenient for manifesting my artistic concerns, these
being:-
The quality of the spirit of place
The celebration of one's native cultural heritage
The concept of faith &
The balancing act between love and lust
- these are all issues which, via text, image and song, I construct
into an aesthetic whole that stands as witness to my concerns, intentions
and beliefs.
