 ANASTASIA
Anastasia is a highly professional and polished trio from Skopje,
Macedonia, and they combine traditional instruments with synthesisers
and samples.
The group comprises Zlatko Oridjanski (guitar, mandolin, flut
e and backing vocals), Goran Trajkoski (lead vocal, bagpipes and
flute), and Zoran Spasovski (drums, percussion, keyboards and backing
vocals).
Anastasia rose to fame with the soundtrack to Milcho Manchevski's
award-winnning film, Before The Rain. The CD of the same name (1994
Polygram) features 11 very varied tracks characterised by the complex
irregular rhythms and wavering melodies of an area where the West meets
the Orient.
Anastasia's more recent Melourgia (1997 Libra Music 007-2 CD)
was issued by an Athens-based label and features notes in Macedonian,
Greek and English. Given the problems caused by political rivalries in
the region, this was quite a coup. The album incorporates a lot of traditional
music but has enough synth parts to give it a grand filmic feel.
Anastasia are very successful in their own country and have done numerous
music scores for films, theatre and TV, as well as touring abroad. Accomplished
musicians, they pride themselves on live performance.
