AMOK
- Fifth Dispatch
Sourcebook of the extremes of Information
Edited by Stuart Swezey
ISBN 1-878923-12-9
AMOK Books 1999 $19.95/£14.99
The AMOK Fifth Dispatch differs from the earlier ones. The
AMOK Dispatch was originally a mail-order catalogue although many
used it as a sourcebook. With the Fifth Dispatch AMOK has taken
the full step and it is now a sourcebook for extreme information, divided
into 14 main categories: Control, Exotica, Mayhem, Natas, Neuropolitics,
Orgone, Parallax, R & D, Scratch'n'Sniff, Sensory Deprivation, Sleaze,
Tactics, Bataille, and Nietzsche and most of these are divided into subcategories.
There is also a website index. This huge book, over 560 pages and in large
format, consists of reviews of books, magazines and videos.
This is not a book that you read from cover to cover. Instead you open
it whenever you've got the time, flip through the pages and read about
something that just happens to catch your eye. For example, you read about
a book on bomb making or Orgone energy, then you flip to the sources index
and get the information you need to order it from the publishers. The
only trouble I have with the Fifth Dispatch is that I want to buy all
these books and there are over 2000 entries. I'll probably go broke trying.
But otherwise it's just great.
